One week we explored the largest island of the Azores – São Miguel . The first night we stayed right in the capital, Ponta Delgada, the rest of the nights we spent in a cute little town called Porto Formoso right at the beach. The island offers a wide range of beautiful accommodations and is perfect for relaxing, experiencing and exploring.
My three requirements:
- Maximum 10 rooms (exceptions may apply)
- Unique design, furnished with attention to detail & personalized service
- Usage of local products in the gastronomy and design area
Price range information:
€: Between 50 € and 100 € per night
€€: Between 100 € and 150 € per night
€€€: From 150 € per night
In my price presentation I assume the cheapest room category. The prices vary depending on season, weekday as well as vacation time and serve only to personal classification in the price segment.
Herdade do Ananas
The eight rooms are super spacious & designed individually. Some of them have a beautiful view of the green garden and a large patio. The beds were so comfy! I definitely slept like a baby! The rooms are very bright and inviting thanks to the large windows.
In-house pineapple plantation
The biggest highlight is definitely their own pineapple plantation. A big plus point is that a lot of emphasis is placed on sustainability. And the breakfast – It was just so amazing! They only use local food or fruits from their own garden and plantation. Beyond delicious!
The hotel offers daily free walking tours trough the pineapple plantation! It was super interesting to learn more about growing pineapples. Did you know that a single pineapple has to grow for three years before you can eat it? I know, i couldn’t believe it at first!
The Guesthouse Herdade do Ananas convinces with its charm & the friendliness of the hosts. The property tells a story and became a true place of well-being over generations. I am looking forward to being back and can only recommend it to anyone looking for a place of tranquility.
Casa da Praia
The apartment „Casa da Praia“ is located in the small town of Porto Formoso, in the north of the island. By chance I came across this accommodation on booking.com and finally the extremely good reviews have convinced me to book it. The accommodation has two bedrooms and a living area with open kitchen and direct sea view. The balcony overlooks the beach Praia dos Moinhos, which can be reached after a few minutes walk. Those looking for a retreat and complete tranquility will feel extremely comfortable here. The Wifi is extremely stable and great for working from home.
Other hotels I would definitely recommend:
